A dry white wine with aromas of fresh fruits and a hint of jasmine and grassiness on the nose. The palate has the weight of the older bush vine wines from the hills, combined with the freshness of younger trellised Viura. A touch of Muscat adds to the aromatics to make an attractive and very drinkable wine.
10L Caballo Oscuro Vuira Chardonnay 2020
The traditional white varieties grown in the Carinena region of the Ebro Valley are limited to Viura and Muscat. With the addition of the correct amount of Chardonnay, we add body to the backbone of acidity of the Viura and the floral aromatics of the Muscat.
The Ebro is the major river in the north-east of Spain and the largest river in Spain to run into the Mediterranean. Along its length there are many wine growing regions, , starting with the region of Rioja below the city of Logroño. From there it flows through the lower part of Navarra and then on past Campo de Borja, Calatayud and Cariñena… way on down towards the Priorat, Tarragona and to the sea.
In 2020, as in most of Spain, a mild winter was followed by an exceptionally wet spring - the average annual rainfall was doubled in just two months - creating conditions for mildew. Some plots were badly affected and yields were reduced, but the summer was very dry and quality has been exceptional, with light rainfall towards the end of the harvest having no detrimental effect.
Tasting Notes of Caballo Oscuro Viura Chardonnay 2020: Aromas of fresh fruits (pineapple, peach) combine with a hint of jasmine and grassiness on the nose. The palate has the weight the older bush vine wines from the hills, combined with the freshness of younger trellised Viura and a touch of Muscat adding to the aromatics to make an attractive and very drinkable wine.
